The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as Kallimarmaro, hosted part of the Panathenaic Games celebrated in honor of the goddess Athena. The seats were originally wooden. It was rebuilt in marble by Herodes Atticus between 144 and AD. In the Middle Ages, it was largely despoiled. It was refurbished in 19th century.
